Bespoke Test Development

In order to satisfy particular materials qualification needs, MERL will design and manufacture bespoke test methods and equipment.

For example, for a flexible pipe inner pressure sheath dedicated cells have been developed to measure:

• Extrusion of sheath into gaps in surrounding pressure armour
• Blister testing of sheath (to 15,000 psi)
• In situ creep (to 5000 psi)
• Permeation of gases through sheath at high pressure
